Five Things For Friday

Five Things For Friday
Each week from now on on the FP blog, we will be dropping a list of five things to spend your hard earned pennys on. Things that have been released in the last week or so... so we bring you the first Five Things For Friday

1. D.B Shan - Procession of the Dead.
This is D B Shan’s first book. Well, actually it’s not, because D B Shan is actually the amazing children’s author Darren Shan, but this is his first book exclusively for adults and the first in a new trilogy. Originally written in 1999 under the title Ayuamarca and the pseudonym Darren O'Shaughnessy, it has been given a complete overhaul and this is what Shan is calling the Director's Cut. Available from most good booksellers

2. XX Teens - How To Reduce The Chances Of Being A Terror Victim.
Finally out on a strictly limited edition 7". A superb tune which has been mentioned on these very pages before (scroll down). Available direct from Mute Bank

3. Thud Rumble : Frosted Plates
Thud Rumble Presents... The All New FROSTED PLATES DIY Slipmats! Includes: Two Limited Edition FROST WHITE Butter Rug Slipmats and four Flying Carpets. All the technology of the Butter Rugz paired up with the enhancement of the Flying Carpets all in one package! Frosted Plates are a Do It Yourself Slipmat for the true graffiti DJ heads from the superminds at Thud Rumble & SlipmatSource. Available here and or direct from Thud Rumble

4. Boys Noize - Oi Oi Oi remixed 12"
Oi Oi Oi remixed features cuts from last years album of the same name by Boys Noize. Reworked by Siriusmo vs Boys Noize, Housemeister, A-Trak and Proxy. Although strictly this should not be in the Five For Friday as its not out until March 28th, however it is available to pre order from the very fine HHV.De online record store.

5. Suckadelic : Sucklord 660 Self Bootleg
Ahh the folks at Suckadelic have just dropped their newest creation, the Sucklord 660 self Bootleg figure. So used to bootlegging other classic toys (including our fave the Gay empire stormtrooper) they have now bootlegged their own creation with the Sucklord 660. Limited to just 20 pieces, all with custom paint jobs and carded like the old Star Wars figures.

Surrender X Medicom Bearbrick

Being a big Unkle fan I was looking forward to this forthcoming Surrender x Medicom 400 + 100% Bearbrick (Surrender being James Lavelles new brand), however first impressions are, whilst the face is nice, i'm not sure on the body. Ok so this is a prototype so it may go through a few changes, and I like the idea of the colour changing torso as it reacts in heat, I'm just not sure about the underwear.

Label Check : Dissident

London based record label Dissident output started appearing in specialist record shops, at the tail end of last year, first as limited edition presses of 100 copies and later at (still very limited) 200 copies apiece. Run by Andy Blake, who also records on the label under the aliases : Invincible Scum, SCS and Control Voltage. Dissident is defininetly one to check, the output so far has been, well to say the least, eclectic but most importantly setting a very high standard and quality.
From the minimal techno of Caja De Ritmos and Columbia #1 (with its nifty Star Trek sample), deep electro from Gweilo and Italo cosmic disco sounds from Binary Chaffinch and Ali Renault (one half of Heartbreak)
Well worth a punt, the releases are not cheap but worth every penny!!

Dave Gahan : Hourglass Remixes LP + CD

Its no secret that I love (a) vinyl records (b) reworks and remixes and (c) Depeche Mode. The band always seem to coax some of the cream of the crop electronic music artists to rework their tracks (Carl Craig, Underground Resistance, DJ Shadow, Unkle, Dave Clarke to name but a few) so the release of this LP + bonus CD pack from Dep Mode frontman Dave Gahan was great news, however it was originally slated for a US only release. The good news is its now available exclusively (in the UK) through Mute Bank from March 10th 2008. Pre orders are already up and available from Mute Bank / Recordstore

XX Teens : How To Reduce The Chances Of Being A Terror Victim

This months essential purchase comes from the ominously titled, XX Teens, not the best name for search engines, but maybe thats the idea. Check out the video to the new track entitled "How To Reduce The Chances Of Being A Terror Victim". Stark, realistic and dark and right up our street musically.
Due for release on Mute Records on Feb 25th on 7" vinyl and d/load with a full length offering later in the year.

Busy P x Nike

Ed Banger records head honcho and DJ, Busy P, has collaborated with Nike on these Air Force 1's. Multi coloured upper sole and covered in doodles. Due for release (probably in stupidly limited quantities) later this year

RA 088 : Andy Stott & Claro Intelecto

Head on over to Resident Advisor for an exclusive to RA mix from Andy Stott & Claro Intelecto (Modern Love / Ai Records). The RA blurb states "Made up of exclusive cuts from both artists including unreleased material that is bound to work Modern Love fans into a lather".
Also well worth a check if you do head over to RA is the stunning RA 087 : JD Twitch (Optimo) mix and the Juan Maclean mix
